We all do stupid things from time to time.

This morning I stood in my bedroom for five minutes trying to work out why I couldn't plug my i phone into my jacket with the built in headphones so I could go for a run.  Eventually I did what any sensible person does in a crisis.  They call in an expert.  Enter my 11 year old who explained, very patiently and without a hint of sarcasm (ok, possibly a little sarcasm) that in the six months since it was last warm enough to go for a run, I've changed my phone and my new phone doesn't have a built in earphone jack.

I knew there was a good reason why I had children!

Clients must have the same feeling.  They often have to approach their solicitors knowing they've got something wrong which is obvious to us, but that they were oblivious to.

The reality is that we all, from time to time, do things that in hindsight wasn’t that bright, but if we all had 20/20 hindsight, many professionals would be out of a job.  It’s easy to look at something and see what’s gone wrong and why, but it isn’t always easy to have the same clear vision at the outset.  This is for a number of reasons.  Sometimes it’s a lack of experience.  Sometimes it’s a lack of knowledge.  Sometimes it’s simply because you cannot predict the future.  Sometimes it’s a combination of all of the above.

In my experience, the secret is to know that you’ll get it wrong sometimes, but if you do, know when to pick up the phone to an expert, and to know who is the right expert for you!  If you’re running your own business, and you need some friendly advice from someone who has loads of experience, drop me a line at stephanie@kleymansolicitors.com.  If you need an expert with complicated technical matters, my 11 year old is available to give advice (with hardly a raised eyebrow in exasperation!) at very reasonable rates.
