Like most people who run their own business, I work long hours – early morning meetings and late nights at events.  On average I estimate that I do around a 60-70 hour week, but that's my choice.
Many people probably assume that as there are laws saying we should be working a maximum of a 48 hour week, it isn't possible to force people to work longer.
However, in a recent court case, it was found that contracts requiring staff to work an 84 hour week (yes you read that right!) was reasonable.
The reality is that there are circumstances in which you can expect your staff to work longer hours.   If this is something that you need advice on contact me at stephanie@kleymansolicitors.com for a free consultation.
