Let’s get NAKED!!!!

Over the weekend I was told a story about a conversation between a father and his five year old daughter.

It started with the daughter wanting to play the “special” game!

He has no idea what she meant, so asks her some questions.

She says, you know the “special” game, the naked one!

He’s concerned, obviously, but decides to ask some more questions.

When do you play the special naked game.

With Paul, my babysitter, when you and mummy are out!  She replies.

Obviously, he’s very worried now, but trying hard not to show it, as he doesn’t want to upset her and wants more information.

Does your brother play the game with you, he asks!

Noooooo, she answers.  And Paul said I mustn’t tell him or he’ll make us stop!

Now he’s really fighting hard not to completely freak out, and eventually the little girl says that she’ll show him.  She leads him into her brother’s room, opens the cupboard, and points to the top shelf, where he sees…….the board game, Operation!

Apparently, her brother refused to let her play it because he was convinced she’d lose the pieces.  So, she and Paul only played it when her brother wasn’t around, and only if she promised never to tell him.

I understand it took about two hours for the father’s blood pressure to come back to normal.

But fair play to him – he remained calm, and didn’t panic or over react until he had ALL the information, and in the end, it all turned out to be innocent.

Which is something I’d like to be able to help some of my clients (and occasionally opponents!) do as well.

Sometimes there is a simple (blameless) explanation as to why an employee has been sending information to their personal computer.

Occasionally a co director can give a rational (non threatening) explanation as to why they’ve been working for another company on the side.

Every now and then, a contractor can justify why they’ve been working for your client directly.

Whilst often there isn’t an innocent explanation, if there is, you’ll have saved yourself a lot of time, money and stress by having checked first.
